Something Borrowed is the story of a girl, who slept with her best friend’s fiancé who is also her male bestfriend and long-time crush. Turned out the guy also had a long-time crush on her. It tells the story of secret love affairs, secret crushes and loves (yes, they are all plural). The guy must make a decision – avoid issues that will ruin the prestige of his family’s name and marry his fiancé as planned, or follow his heart’s desires, be with the one he truly loves which will take a negative toll his family name, and mostly to his parents.
One word: LOVE! You might find the story somehow heavy, but the movie is really light to watch. You will witness how everyone struggles to be mature and stand up for what they really want and how love plays a major role in this phase. Everything all works out for everybody in the end. I can’t really say anything much, because it is what it is – and I don’t wanna spoil it for those of you who are planning to see it.
This is one of my favorite romantic movies.. because I can, I think, relate to it. I have the same issue with the secret crush thing and it kind of gave me hope – even if what I’m hoping for is downright impossible. This movie gave me a flicker of hope.
Three thing that this movie proved to me:
1. Opposites do
not always attract. You can find love with someone who shares the same traits with you.
2. You have to admit your feelings to the one you love before it’s too late. You’ll never know how they feel unless you tell that person first, because maybe, he/she is just waiting for you too and was probably assuming that you don’t like him/her back. If it isn’t so, at least you tried. There wouldn’t be any what ifs.
3. If people are meant to be together, then they will be together in the right time.
The actors: I loved them. I just really have to laud their performances: Both Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson did wonderful job at portraying the innocent, sweet & naive Rachel and the free, spunky & happy-go-lucky Darcy respectively. Plus, Colin Egglesfield (Dex) and John Krasinki (Ethan) are both drop dead hot and handsome (or as I call it, H squared) in this movie.
